JUST KIDDING. About ending this email there. Not kidding about Jeopardy! though.

I will be on Jeopardy!, as a contestant, on the December 27th episode!

My chance to appear on Jeopardy! was epic. It was the culmination of my lifelong love of the show and of trivia in general. I have watched Jeopardy! since it first started airing in 1984, when I was three years old. I can remember sitting with my Hungarian nagymama, who didn’t speak English but admired Alex Trebek’s mustache.

I can remember watching it

… in high school, the day I decided what college to attend.

… during dinner breaks at the Gaston Gazette, my first newspaper job out of college.

… the night after Barack Obama was inaugurated.

… the night I went into labor with my oldest son.

So, it means a lot to me! It was an honor to appear. If you get a chance, tune in today.

In a day or two I’ll send you an email where I’ll detail some surprising parallels between my experience on Jeopardy! and my experiences as a writer. So look for that as well.

… Maggie

PS: If you’re new to my list and wondering, “What the heck is this?”... this is not my normal newsletter content.

I send a newsletter full of writing tips, resources, and inspiration most Wednesdays. We will be back to regularly scheduled programming next week!

PPS: Beginning January 11, 2023, I am also kicking off Time to Write, a free, weekly writing group on Zoom. (Here is the link to sign up if you already know you are interested.) I’ll share more info about Time to Write next week.

This week, I’m basking in the blue glow of the Jeopardy! lights. :D If you catch the episode, I hope you enjoy!

Hi! I appeared on Jeopardy! yesterday. You may have seen the email I sent on Tuesday morning excitedly sharing about it. And even though I was excited to share the news, I was also hesitant. After all, I lost. I didn’t just lose, I was blown out of the water by the reigning champ. I got creamed. It was a shellacking. So, I very seriously considered not telling anyone. Just a few hours after I shot the episode, as we were driving home, I could hear a voice in my head saying, What is the point...
